The end of the catch up week

I am linked, booked, tweeted, and I'm flickring out there a bit.  By no means an expert yet, but I do feel more comfortable with moving around in the applications.  And some of my Facebook friends are glad to have me back again after a several month absence.  The jury is still out on what I really think about all of this, but I did manage to re-connect with a friend from library school.  I read in an American Libraries Direct article this week that she is heading up the merge team for the Illinois library systems. I eventually found her on LinkedIn, and we got connected.

Looking forward to Thing 6...!

Thing 5

I'm glad for a catch-up week! Today I worked on photos in Flickr, and I set up an account on LinkedIn.  An old friend had sent me a request to join a couple of months ago, and I finally responded.  Next project:  more photo work on my blog.

Thing 4: #2

Today was Twitter day.  I set up my account and found a few people/organizations to follow (thanks, Polly, for the start!) but I didn't send any tweets. My initial response to Twitter was "why would I need that?"  I will follow it awhile to see if I can answer the question.

Thing 4 : Online Communities

I've been a member of Facebook for awhile now, but I find I'm an "irregular." For awhile I check regularly and sometimes even post, but then I drop out.  I got out of the habit in January and only looked at my page once in awhile over the past few months. I like the posts that provide what I think is useful information, but I'm not so interested in the who-is-doing-what-when stuff.  I can hardly keep up with what I am doing, never mind everybody else!  I keep wondering where people find the time....

I do like the Learn With CDLC page, though.  Guess it's because it has useful information!

Perhaps some of my issues have to do with the work/private interface.  Facebook seems to bring those parts of my life face to face with each other, and that might be awkward sometimes.

Wish I were there...

Thing 3: #3

Well, I've made it through the basics anyway!  There is lots more to explore, and many possibilities with the photo-sharing options.  If there were only more time in the day....!

Thing 3: Photo-Sharing

Starting my catch-up now!  This is one of the photos I added to my Flikr account.

Falling behind

Well, that's what bronchitis will do to you. I've now fallen behind in my Learn with CDLC lessons because I was out sick two days last week, we had our Outstanding Library Student Employee Award ceremony, I had to file budget reports, etc., etc.  I suspect I'm not alone, even if you may have different reasons.  Now I just have to not get discouraged and catch up!!

RSS: Day 3

I didn't get to spend too much time on this today.  I really wanted to look at Google reader and that's all I did:  look.  The goal for tomorrow better be "set up" rather than "look at."  Sue and I worked together on getting some feeds into her iGoogle, and that helped to refresh my memory.  Best news of the day was that Chris figured out why she couldn't post comments on other people's blogs.  And the most fun is seeing what everybody else is doing with their blogs.  Lots of creative people in our region!

RSS: Day 2

I've been looking through the blogs and don't see too many with Thing 2 posts.  In one Polly responded that the RSS thing is the most complicated.  So I don't feel too bad that I didn't get everything done yesterday.  I set up  iGoogle and later in the day moved lots of the Learn with CDLC links and blogs to a separate page.  That way I can keep up with the questions and answers that come in -- and keep track of the progress of the CDLC staff.

I will say that it's hard to feel lost and to ask stupid questions! But as we say at the reference desk -- there are no stupid questions, right?

Thing 2: RSS

RSS will definitely be a more than one day lesson!  I've already learned a lot using iGoogle, but it's just the very beginning, I know.  I like the ability to set up tabs for different interests, so I set up a tab for CDLC Learns as well as one for library tools. Hopefully the RSS feed for comments will help me see what people are asking about.   I was also happy to find a moon phase gadget for my iGoogle home page.  I'm really glad that Polly set up the tutorial, because that made it very easy to get started.

Blogging: Day 4

I can't believe that we are on the last day of Thing 1!  I've been reading blogs each day and exploring the different blog sites that Polly suggested.  I'm definitely more comfortable with this, though there are still some questions I haven't figured out.  Like why I can bookmark some blogs and not others.  And why one of my colleagues can't seem to leave comments on anybody's blog.  She thinks the software hates her!  Anybody got a better idea?

Thanks to everyone who is participating!!
